EU Settlement Scheme
EUSS Family Permit
A non-EU family member without a valid biometric residence card should apply for an EUSS family permit to enter the UK. There is no deadline for this application, and if approved, the permit will be valid for six months. After entering the UK with an EUSS family permit, the family member should apply for pre-settled or settled status within three months of arrival. If the application is submitted after three months, it will be considered late and they must provide reasonable grounds for missing the deadline.
EUSS late applications
If applications were not made before the deadline, applicants may still apply if there are reasonable grounds for making a late application. Our specialist team can provide detailed advice and assistance with such applications.
Switching from Pre-settled to Settled status (ILR)
After living in the UK continuously for five years, an applicant can apply for Settled status. If you entered the UK with a family permit, your five-year period begins on that day. If you’re not eligible to switch to Settled status, your Pre-Settled status may be extended by two years just before it expires and you’ll receive an email notification once the update is made.
