British citizenship by marriage
Marriage to a British citizen does not automatically grant the non-UK spouse British citizenship.British citizenship is attained by marriage through the process of naturalisation. You must have been physically present in the UK exactly 3 years before the Home Office receives your application.
British citizenship by descent

British citizenship by birth
A child will acquire British citizenship by birth if they are born in the UK to a parent who is either a British citizen or settled status in the UK at the time of the birth. Registration of a child as a British citizen
When a child is not automatically British by birth, they may be able to apply to register as a British citizen. A child is entitled to register if one of the following conditions applies: they were born in the UK and a parent became British or obtained settled status before the child turned 18; they were born in the UK before 1 July 2006 to a British or settled father who was not married to their mother; or they were born in the UK and have lived here for at least 10 years.
British Naturalisation
If you are at least 18 years old and have been granted indefinite leave to remain or have acquired a right of permanent residence in the UK, you may be eligible to apply for British Citizenship by Naturalisation.
